Financing artisanal, small scale and junior mining projects can be a challenging task in frontier financial markets. These projects typically have high fixed costs, require long-term commitment of capital, and face uncertainty due to geology and market volatility. In addition, underdeveloped local financial markets for artisanal and small scale mining financing have led to these companies operating outside of formal financial systems. To address these challenges the Mining Finance Master Class is designed to build the capacity of the financial and mining community in the East Africa region on mining financing strategies and approaches.

The aim is to equip participants with relevant knowledge essential to understanding mining projects, how to structure and finance small, medium, and large mining projects. During the Master Class, delegates will develop unique business strategies, ideas and conceptual products for banking artisanal, small scale, and junior miners, and how to raise capital at any stage of the mining project The Master Class will also assist delegates in assessing mining project feasibility, conducting financial analyses, structuring mining investments using various sources of funds and strategies, and reviewing key provisions of the documentation process of mining projects.

Furthermore, the training will enable delegates to evaluate the major players in a mining project and how they impact financing decisions, including suppliers, community and local content requirements, biodiversity, health, and safety issues. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the course leader through question and answer sessions. In summary, this Master class is a valuable opportunity for financial and mining professionals to gain the knowledge and skills required to successfully finance artisanal, small scale, and junior mining projects in frontier financial markets. This will enable them to gain valuable insights into what works and what doesn't in the industry, and to apply this knowledge to their own work.   • Furthermore, participants will increase their knowledge and awareness of financing sources and modalities in the areas of mining finance. This will enable them to identify potential financing options for their own projects and to make informed decisions about which financing sources and modalities are most appropriate for specific projects and commodities. By exploring mining finance through real-world case studies and examining the latest industry techniques with world-leading experts, participants will gain practical skills and expertise to manage the process of value, financing, and structuring mining projects.
